collected $1,500Cero Violence is a program that help's children, victims of crime, to prevent the reproduction of the violence.
$1500.0Approximately 6 out of every 10 children between 1 and 14 years suffer some kind of child abuse (UNICEF, 2017). Throughout the program children's theater, girls and boys learn to get along better, communicate emotions, ask for help, to respect themselves and others and that violence does not mark the first answer to conflict.
They are kids that live temporarily in the “Centro de Estancia Transitoria” (CET) of the “Procuraduría General de Justicia” in Mexico City. Many of these children are victims of family violence; unfortunately is the same family who had the obligation to take care of them and provide them with an adequate family environment. Up to date there are 73 girls and boys from 0 to 12 years who are in these conditions, but being a transitional center, hundreds of children arrive every year.
As it is highlighted by the Center on the Developing Child at Harvard University, Early experiences affect the development of the brain architecture, which provides the foundation for all future learning, behavior and health. Adverse experiences at the beginning of life can damage the architecture of the brain, with negative effects that last until adulthood, so timely intervention is a key element to generate positive effects.
The children who are in the CET are children rescued from the violence and dangerous traumatic events including physical violence and sexual abuse, with possible psychological traumas and negative effects on their child development. Eventually, the children that live in the CET will be canalized to another context, it can be a home for orphaned children, another family member, or with his birth family, so they should have resilient tools to face any adversity.
The impact of our program focuses on the prevention of violent behavior of the children and the development of positive social coexistence, skills and many other abilities. Additionally, we seek to help the CET with donations that cover the needs of the girls and boys. Our goal is that children live away from violence and teach them to develop social skills that allow them to break violent circles.
