In Mexico, 70.1% of women aged 15 or older (INEGI, 2021) have suffered physical, emotional, or sexual violence throughout their lives. This alarming figure reflects a reality that is repeated across the country, including Xochimilco, one of the most emblematic areas of Mexico City. Here, hundreds of women face gender-based violence and economic vulnerability daily, placing them in an extremely disadvantaged position.
According to recent data, Xochimilco is among the top 5 municipalities with the highest incidence of reported gender-based violence cases in 2024 (GOBIERNO DE LA CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, 2024), reflecting the urgency of acting against this issue. Many of these women are single mothers, informal workers, or young women who, due to a lack of resources, cannot access essential services such as psychological care. The violence they experience leaves not only physical scars but also emotional ones, affecting their self-esteem, decision-making capacity, and overall well-being. Without professional support, the consequences of violence can turn into disorders such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder, affecting not only the women but also their families and communities.
As one of the few organizations combating gender-based violence in the area, we are committed to providing comprehensive support to these women. Currently, in addition to our services, we complement with talks and workshops, like the ones shown in the images, to prevent gender-based violence. However, to achieve a greater impact, we need your help. Together, we can break this cycle of violence and offer them an opportunity to heal, empower themselves, and rebuild their lives.
Why is it urgent to act?
Mental health is a human right, but for many women in Xochimilco, it is an unattainable luxury. Without professional psychological care, the consequences of violence can turn into disorders such as depression, anxiety, or post-traumatic stress disorder, affecting not only the women but also their families and communities. An early diagnosis and appropriate treatment are key to breaking this cycle and empowering women to regain their autonomy and quality of life.
Our proposal:
With your support, we want to offer mental health scholarships to women in situations of violence and economic vulnerability in Xochimilco and its whereabouts. These scholarships will cover a year of professional psychological treatment, with sessions every 15 days, provided by feminist psychologists with experience in gender-based violence. Additionally, the funds raised will be allocated to:
Payment to the professionals providing the therapies.
Promotion of the campaign to reach more women needing help.
Selection process for the candidates, ensuring that those who need it most are the beneficiaries.
Fundraising goal:
We aim to raise $50,000 to provide psychological care to at least 10 women for one year. Every peso you donate will contribute to these women receiving the support they need to heal, empower themselves, and rebuild their lives. With your help, we can transform pain into hope and vulnerability into strength.
How can you help?
Donate: Every contribution, no matter how small, makes a difference.
Share: Help us reach more people by sharing this campaign on your social media and with your loved ones.
Be part of the change: Your support not only changes lives but also contributes to building a more just and equitable society.
