Who we are

Fundación Casa Wabi is a non-profit Civil Association that fosters an exchange between contemporary art and local communities in three locations: Puerto Escondido, Mexico City and Tokyo.

The central axis of our work is social commitment through the arts. We are convinced that a personal encounter with art has a positive impact on the lives of those who come into contact with it.

Founded in 2014 by Mexican artist Bosco Sodi, the main venue was designed by architect Tadao Ando, on Oaxaca's Pacific coast.

We promote the social welfare of the region through art and its different disciplines, developing educational projects, cultural exchange, Environmental and infrastructure protection.

Our mission is carried out through five community programs (residencies, clay, cinema, mobile library and exhibitions).

The Clay Program seeks to develop an educational plan for Elementary and Middle school children, focused on learning and having a practical approach to the processes of production and management of red mud, endemic to the Costa Chica region of Oaxaca, as well as reassessing its social and cultural importance.

The program takes place at Siza’s pavilion, where children learn all the processes of clay, from the extraction, modeling, drying, and burning, as well as the socioeconomic importance in their communities. Working with children in their formative years guarantees a long-term impact, as learning will determine their adult decisions in those years.
