The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) estimates that 6 out of 10 girls and boys in the world received no education from April to June 2020 due to the Covid-19 * pandemic, when we talk about access to education, for children with disabilities the difficulties of having it increase.
At La Gaviota we seek to grant scholarships to 42 girls and boys from 1 to 10 years with limited resources at the preschool level, 60% with disabilities, so that they do not remain without education and rehabilitation even in the midst of the pandemic.
With their scholarship they will have access to inclusive preschool education and personalized rehabilitation that allow them to achieve the development they need to access the next school level, still in quarantine.
We need to have personnel trained to give physiotherapies, language therapies, as well as educators who provide specialized service with group and personalized follow-up, which allows children to achieve greater learning and growth in their areas of opportunity, with the purpose of provide them the development they need to be included in school and socially towards an independent life.
Preschool age is key to their development, the scholarships will allow us to strengthen their cognitive, motor, sensory and social skills with an inclusive model developed by specialists that allow promoting empathy to break down the walls of disability in children, with the vision of educating to Mexicans aware of the importance of living in an inclusive society in our country.
The World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) state that early childhood development programs can result in better survival, growth and development rates, as well as ensure make further education programs more effective **.
In addition, according to the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the exclusion of a child with a disability from the educational system affects their low educational achievement, which affects their later chances of accessing a decent job, with income sufficient supply and access to social protection ***, which is why it is essential to provide them with timely attention to prevent their vulnerability from increasing due to not having access to education and rehabilitation during the quarantine.
With $ 300,000 we can offer scholarships for a month to 42 low-income children at preschool level, 60% with some disability. In order that, despite the COVID-19 quarantine, they can continue having the education and rehabilitation they need remotely, and avoid lag and / or abandonment that impede their educational, physical, social and emotional development even in quarantine.
