Who we are

MMARES, A.C., is a group of individuals from different institutions dedicated to research, conservation and outreach of marine mammals, with special focus on marine mammal strandings. Our association emerges and derives from our activities carried out since 2012 as members of the Marine Mammal Stranding Network of La Paz, Mexico, with the aim of continuing to develop our functions from a more solid platform and accessing more options for research, conservation, and collaborations. Since that date, we have attended more than 300 events, always in strong collaboration and under the permits and supervision of the environmental authorities (PROFEPA), as well as, with academic support in different areas, from the Interdisciplinary Center for Marine Sciences (CICIMAR-IPN), Autonomous University of Baja California Sur (UABCS), Whale and Marine Sciences Museum, Whale Museum Rescue Center, and the Mexican Society for Marine Mammalogy (SOMEMMA).

Desde el 2012, los integrantes de MMARES, A.C., liderados por PROFEPA, en colaboración con diferentes instituciones se han enfocado en el estudio y conservación de mamíferos marinos, atendiéndose más de 300 varamientos. Así mismo, se han promovido las acciones de educación, entrenamiento, capacitación y asistencia técnica a voluntarios y sociedad en general.
