Who we are

Proyecto Fronterizo de Educación Ambiental A.C. (PFEA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1991 recognized for its dedicated work to influencing environmental policy and engaging the community in actions that promote environmental awareness and protect the integrity of coastal and riparian ecosystems in the Tijuana River basin in Baja California, Mexico

The only urban conservation area in Baja California: We lead and train environmental educators to teach about this first urban protected area and restore its ecosystem.

Accomplishment:

Rescue of Alamar Creek: We led a joint effort to preserve the natural state of this creek and prevent it from becoming lined with concrete.

Innovative disposable plastic waste reduction program: Our Ocean Friendly Restaurant Program, designed for reducing the use of disposable plastics by certifying restaurants, is one of a kind in all of Latinamerica.

Desde hace 20 años lideramos un total de 330 instituciones en nuestras campañas de limpiezas removiendo un total de 600 toneladas de basura. // 50,000 volunteer participants during 36 cleanups in beaches and canyons. For 20 years we have led the participation of 330 institutions in cleanup campaigns resulting in the removal of a total of 600 tons of trash.

Primer laboratorio ciudadano en Baja California que monitorea semanalmente la calidad del agua de las playas de Tijuana, así como la única organización que difunde sus resultados 24 hrs despues de haber tomado la muestra. // The first citizen-run laboratory in Baja California that monitors Tijuana’s coastal water quality and disseminates test results weekly and promptly 24 hours after each sampling.

It is the most important national environmental recognition in Mexico.
